My Caregiver & Me Program

The My Caregiver & Me Program, supported by our volunteers, encompasses extended visitation time every other month for inmates and their children. The goal is to allow children to spend quality time with their mother and maintain connection with her during incarceration time.
Mothers and their children enjoy sharing craft activities in the My Caregiver & Me Program. The volunteer facilitated activity occurs during extended visitation held every other month.

In addition to enhancing the bond of mother and child, the program allows positive parenting and provides a fun and loving memory for moms and their children.

Studies have shown that helping a child maintain a bond with their incarcerated parent contributes to a successful family integration upon release. Mothers who maintain contact with their children are less likely to recidivate than women who do not maintain contact.

The My Caregiver & Me Program was established in 2012. This program, supported by A Sacred Place volunteers, encompasses extended visitation time every other month for inmates and their children.

A child-friendly play area has been furnished in one corner of the visiting center, along with an assortment of toys and games purchased by A Sacred Place. Volunteers, both incarcerated women and people form the community, facilitate craft projects with the mothers and their children.

Hundreds of women and children have participated in a volunteer facilitated craft activity during extended visitation held every other month.
