ASP Offers Volunteer Non-Profit Programs for Incarcerated Women at York Correctional Institution, Niantic CT – Since 2003

Our Mission

A Sacred Place’s mission is to inspire hope among the incarcerated women at York CI, the sole women’s prison in Connecticut. By offering them resources and support, we strive to empower them to cultivate responsible, educated, and spiritually fulfilling lives, free from drugs and crime.

“Somehow we find the strength
To swim to the distant shore of endurance
Journey to self-discovery
Walk the road to recovery

Despite suffering from self-inflicted wounds
Despite spasms of doubt in our hearts
Despite sins from our past
Somehow we find the strength
to endure, to survive, to live.”  -m

Our Programs

A Sacred Place provides programs addressing emotional and educational literacy, modalities
to foster healing, spiritual connection and a successful return to society.

Storybook Project

Studies have shown that helping a child maintain a bond with their incarcerated parent contributes to successful family integration upon release. Our volunteers record the voices of incarcerated mothers reading age appropriate books to send to their children.

My Caregiver & Me

The My Caregiver & Me Program, facilitated by our volunteers at York C.I., encompasses extended quality visitation time, every other month, for incarcerated women and their children. Volunteers bring crafts and games.

Houses of Healing

An emotional literacy skill-building program based on a belief in the intrinsic dignity and worth of each person. Designed to teach emotional regulation techniques, foster emotional/spiritual growth while encouraging responsibility and accountability.

Barbara Mahon Fund

The Barbara Mahon Fund assists incarcerated women at York Correctional Institution who wish to pursue career-specific continuing education programs by covering the costs of tuition, books, and supplies.

Healthcare Education

Our Healthcare Education program offers classes that empower women to gain knowledge about specific health concerns and develop strategies for self-care. It is crucial that incarcerated women acquire the necessary knowledge to not only take care of themselves but also advocate for their ongoing care while incarcerated and in the broader community.

Sacred Sweeties

With your generous donations, ASP provides gift bags brimming with baby supplies, including clothes for newborns and infants, to York CI mothers who give birth at L&M Hospital in New London. Lovingly included are crafted crocheted toy critters (using donated yarns) created by York CI women.

If You Believe “People Can Change” Please Give Today!

Your generous gift enables us to offer programs and opportunities that empower incarcerated women in Connecticut to make significant life changes and successfully reintegrate into society, equipped with the skills and confidence to contribute positively to our communities.
