ASP Offers Volunteer Non-Profit Programs for Incarcerated Women at York Correctional Institute, Niantic CT – Since 2003

Our Mission

The Mission of A Sacred Place is to foster hope among incarcerated women of York CI in order to help them lead responsible, educated, spiritually enriched lives that are drug-free and crime-free.

“Somehow we find the strength
To swim to the distant shore of endurance
Journey to self-discovery
Walk the road to recovery

Despite suffering from self-inflicted wounds
Despite spasms of doubt in our hearts
Despite sins from our past
Somehow we find the strength
to endure, to survive, to live.”  -m

Our Programs

A Sacred Place provides programs addressing emotional and educational literacy, modalities
to foster healing, spiritual connection and a successful return to society.

Storybook Project

Studies have shown that helping a child maintain a bond with their incarcerated parent contributes to successful family integration upon release. Our volunteers record the voices of incarcerated mothers reading age appropriate books to send to their children.

My Caregiver & Me

The My Caregiver & Me Program, facilitated by our volunteers at York C.I., encompasses extended quality visitation time, every other month, for incarcerated women and their children. Volunteers bring crafts and games.

Houses of Healing

An emotional literacy skill-building program based on a belief in the intrinsic dignity and worth of each person. Designed to teach emotional regulation techniques, foster emotional/spiritual growth while encouraging responsibility and accountability.

Barbara Mahon Fund

The Barbara Mahon Fund supports incarcerated women in York Correctional Institute wishing to enroll in undergraduate college courses and certificate programs by paying for tuition, books, and supplies.

Sacred Sweats

Women are often released after years of incarceration with only the clothing that was on them at arrest. Most often those clothes no longer fit or are inappropriate. With your help ASP provides new simple sweat-suits for women being released.

Sacred Sweeties

With your donations ASP provide gift bags full of baby supplies for York CI moms who give birth at L&M Hospital, New London. The crocheted critters (with donated yarns) are all lovingly crafted by our incarcerated women and added to the Sacred Sweeties gift bag.

If You Believe “People Can Change” Please Give Today!

Your gift makes it possible for us to provide programs and opportunities to help incarcerated women make important changes in their lives and re-enter society with the tools to be contributing and positive members of our communities.

A Sacred Place, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization dedicated to providing rehabilitative programs and educational opportunities for incarcerated women in Connecticut.
